Freida Domebo

Freida Domebo

8/7/1935 — 4/18/2016

Freida L. Domebo, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, went to be with the Lord Monday, April 18, 2016, after a long battle with breast cancer. She was a member of the Nez Perce Tribe.

Freida was born Aug. 7, 1935, in her family home in Lapwai, to Titus White and Jane Spencer.

After finishing high school in Lapwai, she went on to college at Bacone College in Muskogee, Okla., where she met the love of her life, Andrew Domebo Sr. They were married March 20, 1954, at a humble chapel, surrounded by a few of their close friends and Freida's sister, Constance Watters. During their early years of marriage, they lived in Oklahoma, California and Washington. They eventually made their way back to Lapwai, where they raised their nine children.

Freida was a longtime employee of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, where she worked as a clerk in several departments over the years. After 28 years of service, she retired from the BIA in 1996. After a year of retirement, she was recruited by the Clearwater River Casino to be the PBX phone operator, where she worked until retirement in November 2015. She always greeted each customer with a smile and a pleasant voice.

Freida loved to spend time with her family attending sporting events of all kinds. Whether is was climbing to the top of the bleachers to watch basketball, sitting in the cold to watch hockey, weathering the storms for football or soccer or pitching her umbrella in the sun to watch a baseball game, she was always there to support her family. As a matter of fact, she traveled to the annual Last Name Family basketball tournament in Springdale, Wash., the weekend before going into hospice. When she wasn't attending games, you could find her at the thrift shops, yard sales and the movie theater. She was always on the go and full of life. She was a long-standing member of the Lapwai Assembly of God.

Freida is survived by her husband, Andrew Sr.; and her children, Andrew Jr., Constance, Angelo (Julita), Amleto (Jamie), Antonio (Tonia), Carla, Alexio (Christie), and Crescentia (Bobby); 34 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Freida was preceded in death by her parents, Titus White and Jane Spencer; daughter Carlotta; sisters Carla and Carlotta; and brother Spencer.

A private viewing was held Tuesday before cremation took place.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Pi Nee Waus Community Center in Lapwai. A dinner and celebration of life will immediately follow the services at the Pi Nee Waus. Burial will take place at a later date.
