Frank Hoyt

Frank Hoyt

2/17/1930 — 8/8/2018

Frank — a man so generous with his heart — hung up his spurs, turned down the lights and began his next journey Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018. Frank left us all with hearts full of love from the joy he brought us and the memories — he was the best part of us all. Always in our hearts, he was a wonderful husband, father and friend.

Frank was born Feb. 17, 1930, in Provo, Utah. He lived a very active life, starting at age 14. During World War II, he went to work for a grocery store in St. Helens, Ore., where he drove truck to Portland to pick up groceries. He was active in the Jaycees, Kiwanis and other civic affairs, and was voted first junior citizen of St. Helens. Later, he was state vice president of the Jaycees, and was also active in Exchange Club.

He started his career in credit and collection at age 23. He was elected president of Oregon Collectors Association. Over the years, he received many awards for his service.

He married Colleen Hymer in 1950. They had three children — Sherrie Lynn, Michael Thomas and Mark Brian. The family moved to Pendleton, Ore., in 1959. Frank continued working and managing the Credit Bureau. They divorced in 1972. Frank moved to Walla Walla and bought the Credit Bureau and did consulting all over the area. In 1978, he sold the business and moved to Lewiston to begin his career with the Lewiston Morning Tribune as credit manager.

In 1977, he met Carrie Kendall Johnson on a blind date in Pendleton. They were married Feb. 10, 1979. In 1980, they bought their home in the Clarkston Heights and have lived there since then with their horses and dogs.

Frank belonged to many organizations: Walla Walla 59ers Riding Club; lifetime member of the Elks and the Nez Perce Sheriff Mounted Posse, serving as chief of the posse in 1988. He lived a wonderful, active life.

He was a hunter, fisherman, boater and trapshooter and won many awards for trapshooting. He and Carrie went on many pack trips into the Wallowas with friends. He had 10 wonderful, fun-filled years with the old cabin at Coon Hollow on the Snake River.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and his son, Mark.

He is survived by his wife, Carrie, of Clarkston; his daughter, Sherrie, of John Day, Ore.; his son, Michael Tom, of Warren, Ore.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place, and there will be a celebration of his life at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Malcom’s Brower-Wann Funeral Home. Donations may be made to the Nez Perce County Sheriff Mounted Posse/Search and Rescue, local food banks, Lewis Clark Animal Shelter or the charity of your choice.
