Florence H. (Gettman) Woodland died Friday, March 1, 2019, at Lewiston Life Care Center at age 102.
She was born in 1916 in Loveland, Colo., to Jacob and Edith Gettman. Later they moved to Walla Walla, where she attended grades 1-11 and was an A student. But she never graduated because she had to help support her family due to the depression years.
She married Guy E. Woodland in 1936, and they had two sons, Michael W. Woodland and William A. Woodland. The family moved in 1941 to Lewiston, where she started work at Montgomery Ward and later at J.C. Penney.
She attended Lewis-Clark State College night school for a secretarial degree after her husband passed away in 1957. Upon graduating, she started work as a secretary for Potlatch Forests Inc. until her retirement.
She unselfishly spent the rest of her life taking care of her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many years were spent volunteering at her church as a Sunday school teacher, serving on the church council and crocheting baby layettes for Lutheran World Relief.
Her hobbies were working in her yard, crocheting, playing cards and baking.
In 2009 she entered Life Care Center of Lewiston and she was there until her passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and one sister.
She is survived by her sons, William (Joann) of Moscow and Michael (Claudette) of Lewiston; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren, with twins on the way.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 920 Eighth Ave., Lewiston.
