Evelyn was born April 3, 1931, in Omaha, Neb., to Fay and Mary (Styers) Bowerman. She graduated from North High School in Omaha in 1948 and went on the complete her bachelor's degree at the University of Omaha and received a master's degree from the University of Colorado.
Evelyn married Jerold Orville Dugger (deceased) on June 5, 1954, in Pueblo, Colo.
In 1968, Jerold and Evelyn moved to Lewiston, where he became president of Lewis-Clark State College. Evelyn taught grade school in Clarkston from 1969 to 1978. She was an active member of Tsceminicum, PEO and Alpha Delta Kappa while living in Lewiston. Evelyn moved to Bluefield, W.Va., in 1978, where Jerold served as president of Bluefield State College until 1988. While there, she was a lead teacher at Windy Mountain Learning Center and devoted her time to volunteer activities, including Bluefield Community Hospital, the YMCA, the United Way, the American Association of University Women and Beta Sigma Phi.
Though Evelyn lived in many different communities, she always considered Lewiston to be her home, and she and Jerold returned in 1993 to enjoy their retirement. Jerold died in 2008, and following the death of her son, Bruce Dugger, in 2013, her daughter-in-law, Kandi, moved her to Wilsonville, Ore., to be closer to her remaining family.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Mary Dugger; her daughter-in-law, Kandi Dugger; grandson Eric and wife Jamie Dugger; granddaughter Beth and husband Brian Conti; and great-grandson Aidan Conti.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity in Lewiston. All are welcome.
