Douglas Coleman Jim was born Aug. 9, 1966, in Toppenish, Wash., and passed away Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at Spokane.
Douglas was raised in Toppenish by his maternal grandmother, Virginia Miller. On July 14, 1985, he married Marlette Guzman and moved to Lapwai, where he has five beautiful children, Garrett, Tyler, Thomas, Genevieve and Andrew Jim. He lived a good life and enjoyed his time with his children, as well as his two grandsons, Talen and Roxas Jim.
He is survived by his wife, Marlette; children Garrett, Thomas, Genevieve and Andrew at Lapwai, and Tyler and Shanna Jim of Yakima and their two children, Talen and Roxas Jim. He is also survived by his sisters, Regina Penney and Selina Randall; his brother, Mitchel Jim; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Douglas was preceded in death by Marilyn Miller, Elizabeth Daisy Allen, Roberta Ezekiel and Kathleen Allen.
Douglas was very much a loving father to his children. He had been a renal dialysis patient for more than 20 years. He got up every other day for his children just to survive another day. Douglas was also employed with the Clearwater River Casino for a short time but had to quit due to his health. The birth of his children was everything to Douglas; they were his life. Then when his two grandsons were born, Douglas felt more blessed and determined to live.
A memorial service was held Wednesday. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. today at Sacred Hearth Catholic Church in Lapwai.
