Dorothy Zimmerman

Dorothy M. Zimmerman, 89, of Deary, passed away Monday, March 13, 2017, at the Hospice House in Spokane.

She was born Aug. 26, 1927, to Asa and Carrie Cook. She married Arnold Zimmerman on Nov. 10, 1945, in Kendrick. They made their home on Texas Ridge outside of Deary from November 1945 until moving into Deary in the fall of 1976. In 1980, they moved west of Deary in the home Dorothy continued to live in until October 2016. She then moved to Aspen Park Care Center in Moscow, and in January of this year moved to Regency Assisted Living in Pullman.

She is survived by sons Larry (Darlene) of Deary, Ron (Shannon) of Genesee, Tom (Kelly) of Deary and Don (Joanie) of Clarkston. Also surviving Dorothy are 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. In addition, she is survived by sisters Georgia Brotnov and Mary Loomis of Clarkston and Kathy Grinolds of Asotin; brothers Asa and Loyd of Juliaetta, Robert of Deary and Bill of Clarkston. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arnold; son John; sisters Hazel, Carrie and Linda; and brothers Cliff and Leonard.

Dorothy was a homemaker and later in life enjoyed volunteering at the local thrift store and caring for others. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and watching her sons and grandkids at sporting events. She was always there cheering her sons on during basketball games. She also loved to dance. Dorothy and Arnold were well known for their dancing skills. They taught dance lessons over the years in Deary, Troy and Moscow.

Dorothy was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by all.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens, 3821 Seventh St., Lewiston. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. at the Deary Community Bible Church. Following the memorial service, a covered-dish lunch will be held at the Deary Community Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Deary Fire and Ambulance Fund.
