Dorothy J. LaLonde passed away Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, at the age of 86.
She was born to William and Juanita Pickett on June 6, 1928, in Lewiston. She was the youngest of two girls. Dorothy grew up in Lewiston, graduating from Lewiston High School in 1946.
After graduation she worked for Pacific Northwest Bell. She then married Leonard R. LaLonde of Clarkston on Dec. 13, 1947. Together they had four children. Leonard passed at the young age of 26, and Dorothy raised her four children on her own, never remarrying.
Dorothy was a very strong and independent woman, and raised her family doing multiple odd jobs while her children were growing up. After her children were raised, she went to work for Omark in 1973, retiring in 1993 from Blount.
Some of Dorothy's favorite things to do after retirement were to work in her yard, enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sewing, taking lots and lots of photos, doing the daily crossword puzzle and watching her favorite TV shows with her Bearcat scanner blaring in the background. Dorothy also enjoyed spending many years with her longtime companion, Kenneth L. Jensen. She cared for him the last few years of his life after his spinal cord injury.
Dorothy was a generous, caring, giving person, and never asked for anything in return. She had an infectious laugh that you never forgot.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Eric LaLonde of Lewiston; daughter Susan LaLonde (Glenn) of Arizona; daughter Barbara Nelson (Patrick) of Lewiston; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister Shirley Coleman; son Bruce (Buck) LaLonde and companion Kenney Jensen.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at Malcom's Brower-Wann Funeral Home.
Dorothy's family wishes to extend a special thanks to the medical staff, and Palliative Care at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Palliative Care and Family Hospice Services at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.
Her family and friends had a name for her little sayings, known as "Wandie-isms." We will always think of her when sitting outside wearing a "patio sweater."
