Chester (Chet) Foster, loving husband, father and grandfather, went to heaven in his sleep Jan. 10, 2014.
Chet was born March 23, 1940, in Marble, Ark., to Jesse Alfred and Jesse Irene (Tackett) Foster. He came to the Orofino area in 1956, where he met the love of his life, Jeannie (Mattson) Foster. They married Oct. 18, 1958, sharing their lives for more than 55 years.
Chet worked in the woods for the city of Orofino and Clearwater County Road Department. When Chet retired, he moved to Weippe to be closer to the things he loved: family, the outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting, watching wildlife and long drives in the forest. Upper Fords Creek and the North Fork were two of his favorite places.
Chet was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, with a smile on his face and a joke or two to lighten their way. He always supported community and school activities.
Chet is survived by his wife, Jeannine; sons David (Tina) Foster, Lester (Lois) Foster; daughter Sally (Walt) Harney; 11 grandchildren, Donna (Ryan) Foster, Autumn (Robert) Foster, Whitney (Ian) Foster, Ashley (Cammeron) Foster, Nichole Foster, Chance Foster, Jesse (Lorisa) Foster, Ryan Foster, Trey Foster, Michelle (Jared) Hopkins and Lisa Harney; 11 great-grandchildren, Hailey, Hannah, Ryland, Ethan, Cadence, Gracey, Paitten, Olivia, Liam, Charles and Christopher; brothers Noel Foster, William Foster, Orville Foster and many nieces and nephews.
Chet was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Irene Foster; a sister, Pearl Spradling; and a baby daughter; brothers Johnie Foster, Lester Foster and wife Ollie; and baby granddaughter Desiree Foster.
There will be a celebration of life at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Pierce Community Center, 105 Carl St., with a covered-dish and fellowship to follow. In lieu of flowers, please give to the Timberline School sports program.
