Carla Jean Gibbs gained residence in heaven Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024. She was born June 3, 1934, in Sunnyside, Wash., to Carl Kerlin and Myrtle Nellie (Alexander) Middleton. She shared her birthdate with her dad and twin nieces.
Carla was raised in Outlook, Wash., on her parent’s farm. She was the youngest of five children. Carla accepted Jesus as her Savior and Lord as a young girl and her faith was central to her throughout her life. She attended elementary school in Outlook and graduated from Sunnyside High School in 1953. After graduation she attended Bible college in Eugene, Ore. Her first employment was at a bank in Sunnyside. That year she met John Ellis Gibbs who had come to reside in Outlook, as he helped his sister Maxine, deal with the loss of her husband.
Carla and John were married April 6, 1956, in Sunnyside and lived in Outlook the first year of marriage. Their first child Sue was born June 1957 and six weeks later they moved to the Gibbs family farm in Culdesac to raise their family. Three more children were born: John Ellis Gibbs Jr. in 1959, Lori Jean in 1962 and Mitchell Carl in 1965.
Carla is preceded in death by her husband John Ellis Gibbs, (1996).
Carla is survived by daughter Sue (Delmer) Gehrke; John (Melanie) Gibbs Jr., Lori (Noel) Williams and Mitchell (Tracy) Gibbs; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A “Home Going” service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, at Orchards Baptist Church, 1002 Bryden Ave., Lewiston. Her son, Mitchell Gibbs, will officiate the service.
Memorials may be made to Orchards Baptist Church.
