On Monday, Dec. 5, 2016, Betty McGregor passed away peacefully. She was 96.
She grew up on a farm near Hazelton in southern Idaho, the daughter of Bill and Gertrude Detweiler. Her parents, both from Pennsylvania, met in Idaho after Bill Detweiler returned from serving with the allies in France in World War I. Both of her parents were active in the Republican Party, as was Betty.
Betty met her husband, Kirk, at the University of Idaho, where they both earned degrees. They were married during World War II and, after Kirk completed his Army service, returned to Lewiston. Kirk continued and expanded farming operations that were first established in the 19th century by his grandfather, Marcus A. Means.
Betty continued the farming operation after the death of Kirk in 1978. She received much recognition for her work with the Republican Party in state and local politics.
She is survived by her son, Marc, of Sandpoint; nieces Susan Storey of Lewiston and Robin Storey of Boise; and grandnephew Robert Paine of Spokane.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later time.

The Lord Jesus Christ took Betty McGregor home as He did, her close friends, Cliff and Dorothy Wasem, back in January 2009, and James Soyk last year. I had the honor and privilege of being their friends back in 2005-2007. They were all very special and genuinely good people, part of the "Greatest (American) Generation" during the American (20th) century! I will always miss them! They lived the priorities that made America great: God, family and country. They left their world better than when they first encountered it. The times have changed. Previous generations fade away and another generation takes their place. We, who are alive today, must march forward. Our country and the world is far different than even when John F. Kennedy spoke as leader of the free world. Human society changes over time, but the Lord is the same always (Hebrews 13:8). May God continue to bless America and may souls continue to be saved (2 Peter 3:8-10) all over the world, as Billy Graham would pray!
