Belden entered heaven's gates on Tuesday, June 2, 2015. Belden was born Jan. 22, 1960, in Lincoln, Neb. He was a member of the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska and a longtime resident of the state of Idaho. Belden is the father of two sons, Belden C. Sherman Jr. and Teri P. Sherman, both of Lapwai.
Belden moved to the Boise area at age 8 to reside with his adopted family, Wayne and Shirley Henderson. While in southern
Idaho, Belden participated in football, basketball, track, boxing and achieved his academics. He graduated high school in 1979. Later, Belden attended Southwest Indian Polytechnic Institute (SIPI) in Albuquerque, N.M., where he met the love of his life, July T. Greene. They married in 1985, returned to Idaho and had their two sons. His family enjoyed camping, fishing and annual trips to Burgdorf, Talmaks, the Lapwai High School girls' and boys' state playoffs in Boise and to the Morris Curello Conference in Los Angeles. Belden was employed with Nez Perce Tribe Fire Management as a seasonal firefighter and for McCann Ranch and Livestock. Later divorced, Belden traveled throughout the United States, including Buffalo, N.Y., San Diego and Los Angeles, Phoenix, Denver and Salt Lake City ,to name a few.
Through the years, Belden returned to the greater Northwest, making Lapwai his home. Belden won his bout with tuberculosis and fought a courageous fight against cancer.
Belden is survived by his two sons, Belden Jr. and Teri (Savannah) Patrick; grandsons Jaishaun Sherman and Thamius Prynce Sherman; two granddaughters, Jailah Larrae and Kendriq Sherman, all of Lapwai; his parents, Wayne and Shirley Henderson of Meridian, Idaho; his brothers, Vince Sherman of Provo, Utah, Carvel Sherman and Mike Henderson of Salt Lake City; and his sisters, Janelle Walker and Sue Sherman of Macy, Neb., and Lita Parker of Chandler, Ariz., and Shirlayne, Tammy and Suzie Henderson of southern Idaho; and his mother-in-law, June W. Stewart; brothers-in-law Larry and Solo Greene, and sisters-in-law Bridgette, Aqua and Vega Greene, all of Lapwai; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eunice Walker Sherman and Edmund Patrick Sherman; brothers Curtis Walker, Duane Sherman and Ronnie Webster; his sisters, Joyce Davidson and Cleo Sherman; father-in-law Larry (Idaho) Greene; and nephew Larry (L.G.) Greene.

The family will hold a private dressing at 3:30 p.m. today. Immediately following, a wake service will be held at his family home at 109 Agency Road (the Greene Estate). A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday and the funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, both at the Spalding Presbyterian Church in Spalding.
