Alice Hall

Alice Hall

5/28/1927 — 4/21/2015

Alice Hall passed away from complications of stroke and pneumonia at Life Care Center, Lewiston, on Tuesday, April 21. She was 87.

Alice was born May 28, 1927, at Grangeville, to Mike and Cora Stuivenga. She attended the Fairview School, a one-room country school, and graduated from Grangeville High School. She especially enjoyed business and bookkeeping classes, which she attended at Stites and Weiser, Idaho. Alice worked for the First Security Bank in Grangeville until her marriage in January 1951, to Alvin E. Hall at Fort Pierre, S.D. While Alvin completed his military service, they lived in San Francisco, and then returned to Grangeville in 1953. In 1956, Alvin and Alice relocated to Lewiston and operated Hall Oil Company while raising six children.

Alice was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Lewiston and was active in the Ruth and Marian Circles. She volunteered at Grace Lutheran Pre-School and Summer Bible School and enjoyed spending time with the children. Alice was an auxiliary member of the Eagles and Elks Clubs where she and Alvin often went dancing - they loved to dance! When her children were younger, Alice was active in the PTA and served as Brownie and Girl Scout leader. In later years, she enjoyed line dancing and exercising at the gym several days a week. Alice loved flowers and spent many happy hours puttering in her backyard.

The most important thing to Alice was family. She was a very proud grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They always brought a smile to her face and put a twinkle in her eye. She enjoyed visits and letters from her large extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin; her two brothers, Harry and Bill, and her two sisters, Charlotte and Susanne.

Survivors include her children, Judy L. (Ivan) McHone of Stites, Marilyn S. Hall of Boise, Leon E. (Linda) Hall of Clarkston, Christine K. Hall of Liberty Lake, Wash., Michael G. (Elaina) Hall of Olathe, Kan., and Douglas M. Hall of Tacoma; sisters-in-law Catherine Wahle of Custer, S.D., and Jean Stuivenga of Grangeville; brother-in-law Pete Blanksma of Bozeman, Mont.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank those who cared for Mom at Life Care Center, where she spent her final months.

Viewing is set for 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 1, at Malcom's Brower-Wann Funeral Home in Lewiston. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at Grace Lutheran Church in Lewiston, with burial to follow at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens.

I am so sorry to hear of Alice's passing. She was such a special person and cousin to us all. Always so friendly and just a very nice person. So sad to say we just never got to see her or the rest of the family enough. What a wonderful job she did on her and Alvin's children. She will be so missed by us and all who had the priveldge of knowing her.
