Alfred Seaman

9/30/1936 — 7/22/2025

Alfred Monroe Seaman Sr., 68, of Lewiston, went to heaven on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene.

Monroe was born on Sept. 30, 1956, to Carlton and Flora Jean Seaman in Kountze, Texas. He was raised in Buna, Texas, and graduated from Buna High School in 1975. After graduation, Monroe enrolled at Spartan College of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Okla. After a semester, he moved back to Buna, and started work at Eastex Paper Mill.

Monroe met the love of his life, Jackie Sue Ratcliff, in November 1976. He knew right away that she was the one, and he proposed in December 1976. They were married on June 23, 1977. Right after they got married, they moved to Lake Village, Ark., where he assisted in establishing a new Potlatch Paper Mill. In 1979, they relocated to McGehee, Ark., where they started their family.

Monroe and Jackie welcomed their first son, Alfred Monroe Seaman Jr., on June 30, 1979. Their second son, Corey Daniel Seaman, joined their family Nov. 16, 1982. On June 13, 1987, they welcomed their third son, Jeremy Guy Seaman. In October 2002, Monroe, Jackie and Jeremy relocated to Lewiston. After a 40-year career with Potlatch/Clearwater Paper, he retired in 2017.

In June 2022, Monroe became a licensed chaplain. He served about one and a half years at the Juvenile Detention Center where he taught Bible lessons. Unfortunately, he had a short career as a chaplain due the onset of leukemia.

Monroe enjoyed spending his time outdoors, whether it was fishing, hunting, jet boating, riding wheelers, or foraging for mushrooms. He enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandchildren, either outdoors or watching football games.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie; sons Al (Sarah), Corey (Sherri), and Jeremy; mother Jean; brothers Reggie (Loretta) Seaman, Jimmy Don (Dianne) Seaman, Jay (Dianne) Seaman, Kenny (Gail) Seaman, and Bobby Seaman; sister Fayda Foster; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Carlton Reginald Seaman.

The funeral will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at Gateway Church, 707 Seventh Ave., Lewiston. He will be laid to rest in Buna, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Monroe’s name to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
