Agnes Barott

Agnes Barott

9/5/1930 — 7/10/2015

Agnes Pearthree Barott of Lewiston, passed away at home Friday morning, July 10, 2015.

Agnes was born and raised in northern Minnesota. She was the youngest daughter of Arnum and Chris Pearthree and has a twin brother, Bud Pearthree, who survives her. She is also survived by her husband, James E. Barott; son Jim Barott; and daughter Lauri McClain and their families, which include five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Lloyd, Murray and Frances, as well as sister Peggy.

Agnes attended public K-12 school in McGregor, Minn., where she was valedictorian of her senior class. She attended the University of Minnesota in Duluth, where she earned an associate degree in nursing in 1950. This was a time when women could choose to become either a nurse or a teacher. Being one not to suffer fools gladly, she chose to become a nurse. Because she highly valued education, she later attended Lewis-Clark State College in the 1980s and earned a bachelor's degree, one of her greatest accomplishments. She was especially proud and supportive of her daughter and granddaughters who worked hard and achieved significant academic accomplishments and advanced degrees that were not available to women when Agnes first attended college.

After completing her studies and becoming a registered nurse, Agnes joined the northern migration west, moving to Richland, Wash., where she married James E. Barott on Aug. 31, 1950. The Barott family moved to Lewiston in 1961, when Jim was hired as station manager for Hughes Air West at the Lewiston airport. This was after brief stints in Moscow; Salt Lake City; and Ephrata, Wash. While in Lewiston, Agnes worked at the pediatric office of Dr. Manschrek and Dr. Olson. Agnes then accompanied her husband to Houston and Tucson, Ariz., before returning to Lewiston and retirement in 2000. In retirement, Agnes was active in church work and enjoyed playing bridge and golf. She also loved to garden and was especially fond of her roses.

Memorial services with a reception to follow will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Congregational Presbyterian Church located at 709 Sixth St. in Lewiston. There will be a 3 p.m. viewing Sunday at Malcom's Brower-Wann Funeral Home in Lewiston.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Congregational Presbyterian Church in Lewiston.
