A. Jerome Peer, 95, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Life Care Center of Lewiston. Jerome was born to Alphonso and Margaret Crawford Peer on May 28, 1922, in Winchester. He was one of 13 children.
He joined the U.S. Army in 1942 and participated in seven beachhead invasions in Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany. Dad had many stories of his wartime experience.
Shortly after his return, he married I. Jean Rugg on Dec. 26, 1945. They spent most of their married life in Winchester and retired in Lewiston in 1984. He worked in sawmills, sold farm equipment and farmed. He enjoyed helping others, fishing, playing cards, having coffee with friends and traveling.
He is survived by wife Jean; four children, Terry (Steve) Cox, Time (Sonja) Peer, Brad (Jana) Peer and Jill (Curtis) Shaw; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and all 12 of his siblings. He was a longtime member of the Congregational-Presbyterian Church and in his lifetime was very active in the Elks, Eagles, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens, 3521 Seventh St., Lewiston. In lieu of flowers please send memorials to the Wounded Warriors Project.
