Gary Henry

3/16/1942 — 2/18/2017

Gary Ray Henry, 74, of Silverdale, Wash., passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton, Wash. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Gary was born March 16, 1942, in Lewiston, to Francis and Edwina (Taylor) Henry. He joined brother Kenneth and was followed by brother Billy and sister Kelly. His family included many aunts, uncles and cousins. He attended school in Lapwai and lettered in football, basketball and track. Gary graduated from Lapwai High School in 1961.

Gary met the love of his life and soulmate, Eunice J. McAtty, when they were in the third grade at Lapwai Elementary School. Gary got Eunice's attention by pulling her braids. They became inseparable and married on July 17, 1962, in Lewiston. Their commitment to each other is awe-inspiring and evident to anybody who ever saw them together. Gary and Eunice have two daughters, Leah R. Tanner and Sylvia D. Gulliksen. Gary cherished his daughters and supported them in all their endeavors. Gary also was the indulgent and proud grandfather of Trevor M.R. Slaney, Kyle P. Slaney, Kevin D. Slaney, Drew J. Slaney and Malcolm B. Tanner. He attended his grandsons' every baseball and basketball game, school plays, band concerts, parades and graduations. He was especially proud to attend Trevor's and Kyle's graduations from the University of Washington.

Gary worked at Potlatch Forests Inc. from late 1963 and worked there until he was hired by the State of Idaho Department of Employment in 1971. He remained there until he and Eunice moved to Everett, Wash., in 1987. He worked at the Bureau of Indian Affairs - Puget Sound Agency, and retired in July 2009.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Edwina Henry; sister Betty Henry; and brother Kenny Henry. He is survived by his beloved wife, Eunice Henry, of Silverdale; brother Billy Henry, of Lapwai; sister Kelly Ahmed (Aqeel) of Hamad Town, Kingdom of Bahrain; daughters Leah R. Tanner (Chuck), of Bremerton, and Sylvia D. Gulliksen (Daniel Martinez), of Silverdale; and grandsons Trevor, Kyle, Kevin and Drew Slaney and Malcolm Tanner. He also will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews and their children.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Spalding Church, followed by burial at Spalding Cemetery. Dinner at Lapwai will follow burial.

Malcom's Brower-Wann Funeral Home is handling funeral arrangements. Gary is greatly loved and will be tremendously missed.

Eunice,

Just wanted to send my condolences and offer up prayers for you and family. Gary will be missed by so many, including me. Seeing the two of you wander around the Agency was a living testament to devotion and friendship, and it meant so much to see you both every day - it was like a piece of home was in Everett.

I know you will continue to be a strong example to your kids and grandkids and I am sure Gary will be waiting in Heaven for you when all is said and done.

Take care!

Valerie~
